This notice explains what Double Wing Tek collects when you use doublewingtek.com, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We are a technical diving academy based in Hurghada, Red Sea, Egypt. For anything in this notice, contact us at dive@doublewingtek.com or on WhatsApp.
The short version. We measure how the site and the SLATE dive tools are used so we can improve them. We do not sell data, we do not run advertising or cross-site tracking, we do not build profiles of individuals, and we never store your IP address in our own records. Everything you enter into a dive calculator stays on your own device.
Who is responsible
Double Wing Tek, Marriott Beach Resort, Touristic Villages, Hurghada 1, Red Sea Governorate 84511, Egypt, is responsible for the data described here. Questions, requests and complaints all go to dive@doublewingtek.com or on WhatsApp.
What we collect
1. Our own usage measurement
Every page sends a small, cookie-free record to our own server so we can see which pages and which
calculators people actually use. It contains: the type of page, which calculator (if any), the site
language, whether the device is a phone or a desktop, the hostname of the site you arrived from
(for example google.com — never the full address), your browser’s time zone,
roughly how long you stayed, how far you scrolled, and whether a calculator was actually used.
To tell one visit from another it also includes two random identifiers — one for the browsing session, one kept in your browser’s local storage so a returning visit is not double-counted. They are random numbers. They are not linked to your name, email, account or any other site. We do not store your IP address: it is used only momentarily, in memory, to stop one source flooding the endpoint, and is never written down.
2. Google Analytics
We also use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, for the same purpose: understanding
audience and traffic. Google sets cookies (typically _ga and _ga_…) and
processes technical data including your IP address, which Google may process outside Egypt and the
European Economic Area, including in the United States. Google acts as our processor for this. See
Google’s privacy
policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with
Google’s official
browser add-on.
3. When you contact us
If you email us or message us on WhatsApp, we receive whatever you choose to send — typically your name, contact details and what you want to train or dive. We use it to answer you and to arrange the training or expedition you asked about, and we keep it as long as needed for that and for our records. WhatsApp is operated by Meta and its own terms and privacy policy apply to messages you send there.
4. What never leaves your device
The SLATE dive tools save your diver profile (such as your preferred pO₂ limits) in your own browser so you do not have to retype it. The tools also cache themselves so they keep working offline on a boat. Your dive parameters, gas mixes and plans are computed in your browser and are never sent to us. Clearing your browser storage removes all of it.
Why we are allowed to do this
- Our own measurement — our legitimate interest in understanding and improving our own website. It is limited to aggregate audience measurement, is first-party only, and involves no advertising, no cross-site tracking and no profiling.
- Google Analytics — our legitimate interest in audience measurement. We honour browser opt-out signals (see below), and if you are somewhere that requires your prior consent for analytics cookies, the controls below let you refuse it.
- Correspondence — taking steps at your request before entering an agreement, and performing that agreement once you book.
How to opt out
- Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. If your browser sends either signal, we load no analytics at all — neither Google Analytics nor our own measurement. Nothing else is required from you.
- Google Analytics opt-out add-on — blocks Google Analytics on every site you visit.
- Your browser settings — block or clear cookies and site data for this site at any time.
- Our team and testers are excluded from measurement entirely, so internal use never distorts the numbers.
How long we keep it
Usage records are stored in monthly files and automatically deleted after 14 months. Google Analytics data is retained under the settings of that service. Correspondence is kept as long as we need it to serve you and to meet our record-keeping obligations.
Who else sees it
Our own usage records stay on our own server and are readable only by us. We do not sell, rent or trade data. Beyond Google (analytics), Meta/WhatsApp (only if you message us) and our hosting provider, we do not share it — unless the law requires us to.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under Egypt’s Personal Data Protection Law (No. 151 of 2020) and the EU/UK GDPR — you may have the right to access the data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy, and to withdraw consent where we relied on it. Write to us at dive@doublewingtek.com or on WhatsApp and we will respond. You may also complain to your national data protection authority, or in Egypt to the Personal Data Protection Centre.
In practice, our own measurement records contain no name, email, account or IP address, so we usually cannot connect them to you as an individual even if you ask — which is precisely the point of collecting them that way.
Children
This site is aimed at adult divers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Minimum ages for training are set by the certifying agency for each course.
Changes
If this notice changes we update the date at the top of this page.
